Established in 1986 the Lisbon Marathon or the Cidade de Lisboa Marathon was an annual marathon held in Lisbon during the months of November or December. From 2013 the race was moved to 6 October and has been rebranded as the EDP Rock ’n’ Roll Lisbon Marathon. This is a popular race among locals and international visitors. It offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy the city on seven hills and the picturesque streets and neighborhoods of the Portuguese capital. There are three events that the participants can choose to take part in. A full marathon 42km, a half a marathon and a mini marathon of 6km. The marathon starts in the beachside city of Cascais and finishes at the same place as the half marathon in Lisbon. The half marathon starts on the Vasco de Gama Bridge. Both the marathon and half marathon are IAAF Gold Standard.

This is a fun event that promotes healthy living and will make an ideal addition to your Lisbon holiday experience. Incredibly scenic views will be enjoyed throughout the marathon course. Running along the course should be easily conquered by a fit runner as majority of the course is flat. To keep the spirits up, both the half-marathon and marathon feature live music along the course and a Finish Line Concert. It is a lovely course to run for those visitors who would like to visit Lisbon and run though the streets of this historic city. There will be water, sports drinks, fruits provided at every 2.5km of the race.

Lisbon’s cool weather conditions in December provide a perfect race setting with pleasant temperatures and sunny with about 45% humidity. In case you are not ready to run the half marathon yet, do not despair, there is the EDP Mini Marathon that covers a distance of 5.5 kilometers which gives you the opportunity to experience all the fun of the Rock ’n’ Roll Lisbon Marathon. This race starts on the Vasco da Gama bridge and finish line in the Parque das Nações. LisbonEye, your Lisbon guide, hopes to see you at the finish line and wishes you a wonderful event.
